Description
The Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 exhaust tone can definitely be enhanced over stock. A V8 should have a distinct growl which is heavily tamed down by Toyota standards. Some aftermarket exhausts try to provide this improved sound with having straight open pipes but all this does is cause immense drone for a daily driver. VR Performance has come up with the best solution for a catback exhaust on the Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8.
To provide the 2013-2021 Tundra owners with a louder, more free-flowing tone exhaust that can be made quiet at the press of a button, the VR Performance valvetronic exhaust is the answer. Vivid Racing has been manufacturing and distributing valvetronic style exhausts since 2009. Valvetronic refers to the ability with a flip of a switch or press of a remote button, an electronic valve is operated to change the direction of the exhaust flow. With naturally aspirated vehicles, you do not want to dump the exhaust flow right out of the header pipes like on a turbo vehicle. This causes a loss in torque as back pressure is still required. To maintain proper performance for the V8 and provide the ability to go between loud and quiet sounds, the valvetronic exhaust system is ideal.
The exhaust has been designed in-house here in Gilbert, Arizona using 3D scanning and modeling techniques. A prototype was built and tested on our own Toyota Tundra for thousands of miles. The exhaust is made of 304 stainless steel that has been meticulous TIG welded and then bead blasted for a unique finish. The exhaust bolts up to the factory headers allowing you to use our system with other components such as long tube headers. The complete catback is made of 2 main parts with the first section featuring the valvetronic component. From the headers, we connect using dual 2.75 inch piping with thick flanges. This transfers into a large canister that features a chamber to direct exhaust gas either straight through to the tailpipes or through the restricted muffler portion when the valve is closed. When the valve is opened, the exhaust is wide open offering an intense sound. The exhaust system uses a OEM style rear over axle section that features dual rear exit exhaust tips. These tips are finished in a black chrome with the VR logo.
The valvetronic system is controlled with an electronically controlled valve. This requires running a wire from the exhaust valve, up into the cab of your truck. It is the owner’s preference to use the included 12 volt accessory plug or you can wire this directly into ignition power on your fuse box. The valvetronic kit includes 2 remote keyfobs to open or close the valves at your discretion. If you are handy with wiring, you could also mount a 3 way switch in one of the blank switch spots next to the steering wheel column. Each kit includes necessary hardware for installation.
